FREE STARBUCKS from 5-7pm today can you believe it!
had an awesome java chip.
together with donations to salvation army.
totally cool really.
wfl today was really...awesome ttm.
learnt alot.
one of my holiday goals is regarding bible study.
going deeper into the word.
and I'm totally glad that I've learnt so much more about 1 corinthians.
and how it is relevant to our everyday lives.
corinth, is so similar to singapore.
I've been staying up later and watching tv these few days.
Animal Planet, Nat Geo etc just switching channels and watching whatever appeals to me.
There was this documentary on hyenas that I watched a few days ago.
All along, I've always thought that hyenas were disgusting creatures, due to the portrayal of them in Lion King.
however, after watching the documentary, I really gained alot of insight.
I realised that hyenas do actually hunt for food themselves and not just steal food from others.
And I saw how motherly and friendly they actually are.
There was this female hyena and her cubs (whatever you call their kids), who were like super friendly towards the cameraman.
and this female hyena, who was supposedly called Nikita, was very caring towards her little hyenas.
it was so heartwarming to watch that.
and I realised animals aren't that different from us.
isn't it the same with us humans.
when we judge others based on what people portray them to be, like for example via gossips, rumours, etc etc.
what friends of friends say.
and we label ppl just based on what we see on the surface, like how I labelled hyenas as "disgusting creatures" before I learnt more about them :/
but how many of us do actually take the effort to know these ppl better?
the "quiet one just cos she doesn't speak up", the "boring one cos she doesn't have a good dress sense", the "nerd just cos she's in a particular class or cos of her appearance", the "one who flirts with everyone" etc etc.
how many of us are actually willing to ignore these labels that ppl give, and really accept them for who they really are.
and when we do take the effort to get to know them better, perhaps we'd be shocked to find out, for example, that the "quiet one" is actually someone who dreams of becoming a radio DJ, but she's afraid to tell ppl that because of the label that she has been given.
perhaps the "boring one" actually keeps a fashion diary or sth, but is to embarassed to tell anyone that she can't afford them.
perhaps the "nerd" secretly dreams of becoming a chef, a teacher, etc etc.
perhaps all the "flirt" wants to do is to be friendly, but her behaviour somehow makes it seem like she's flirting.
but because of the labels that they've been given, they don't dare to live out their dream.
instead, they decide to live up to their labels, to what everyone thinks of them.
ever heard of:
"omg she's joining danceeee? are you serious?? that nerddd? she looks so...errr, uncool?"
"he's thinking of joining debate? but he's so quiet O.o"
"drama? pls lah don't try, you sure cmi one."
"guitar? you sure? lol you don't look very musically inclined to me."
"sailing? she's damn skinny can you think she got muscles meh."
etc etc.
how many of yall know what I'm talking about.
we are all guilty of this.
and we sure don't like it when ppl label us for sth that we know is not the real, us.
so, let's not label others too.
tear it off yo!
